Seneca Rocks With Clouds
The cliff of Seneca Rocks is a famous West Virginia landmark and attracts many visitors to West Virginia, among them rock climbers, hikers, and motor bikers. It dominates over the small village of Seneca Rocks at the intersections of U.S. Route 33 with WV Route 28. I made this image of the cliff on a sunny summer day. The sky was filled with clouds, and the sunlight was striking the trees of the surrounding Monongahela National forest in a beautiful way. |
Seneca Rocks Reflection
Summers can bring heavy rains to Seneca Rocks, the famous landmark in West Virginia. I captures this image of the rock's reflection in a puddle after a rain storm came through the valley. The residual moisture caused a beautiful, pink-reddish sunset, which makes the reflection of the cliff appear to have that colorful glow. The cliff itself is up there, above the "Up There Rd" sign, and is hidden in this image, adding an element of puzzlement and surprise to this print. |
Seneca Rocks After The Storm
This photograph was taken on a summer weekend when I was at a grassroots event for women rock climbers at Seneca Rocks, WV. We were saddened that it rained Friday night. But then on Saturday morning, the Sun rose in the "Gunsight," the gap between the North and South Peaks - what a spectacular sight! The Sun quickly burned off the fog and dried the rocks. We had a wonderful weekend of climbing and camaraderie. |
The Milky Way Over Seneca Rocks
In September, the Milky Way rises straight up over Seneca Rocks in the middles of the night. You can also distinguish the Andromeda galaxy and the Pleiades star cluster. There is a faint meteor trail near the top of the photograph, and a longer, brighter trail from an airplane. The cliff itself and the cloud above are illuminated from the faint light of the town of Seneca Rocks and passing cars. |
